Repurposed Fence board

Pickin' at my Uncle's house!

I had mentioned that I wanted some old wood to create some signs and things for our upcoming wedding and my uncle just happend to have a couple of old fence boards that he gave to me!
YES!   FREE!!!
So to Uncle's house I went!

I put honeybear to work cutting them into the pieces that I needed.
(Not that I couldn't do it myself, but why when you have a honeybear to do it for you!)

So now to stencil my signs

Use standard stencils of your choice

and acrylic paint

I used white first

zapped it with a heat tool to dry fast

then the tiffany blue

because I wanted that distressed two tone look

Loved how these turned out!

We will nail them to a stake and put at the road

LOVE!

So now for the 2nd fence board

I wanted a box
(not sure at this point what I was going to do with it)

so honeybear a went to cuttin' and nailin'

And gave me this

"It's rustic" he said

"Perfect" I said

Now I figured out what to do with my box

Use it on the welcome table for cards

So out came the stencils... again

So next I grabbed an old leather belt that honeybear didn't wear anymore

and cut it up

for straps

for my box

LOVE LOVE The contrast of old wood and leather

But I can't take credit for this box and leather strap idea
I saw it first at Beyond the Picket Fence
blog a while back and every since then
I have wanted to do this
(sorry I couldn't get the direct link to the actual blogpost to work for some reason)

Just used little black tack nail and hammered it down

I put a strap on both ends

So adorable.

I can't wait to see all of this come together in September

I hope this inspires you to make your own cool signs or boxes

    1. Thanks so much. Wow I didn't even realize you were from Shreveport. That's awesome! I'm sad to say that usually when I'm in your area I'm just passing through on my way to somewhere else. Hopefully one day I'll get to stop and take a look around!

  9. My Fiance and I sound so much like you two. He also has a stack of fencing boards just waiting for him. This is perfect. We went most of the 400 mi yard sale (Hwy 68) in KY in June and looking forward to the 127 yard sale in a few weeks. Maybe we'll bump in to each other unknowingly. enJOYing your blog and your newest follower.

    1. Wow that's awesome! Yes My mom and I are going to the 127 yard sale. We are starting on the Southern end in Alabama and working up to Chattanooga and maybe further. This will be our first time so it is all new to us. Hopefully I'll see you somewhere along the way.

  10. Your signs turned out great, and will look so good greeting your guests as they come to your wedding. Love that you Uncle gave you some great old pieces of wood. My hubs and I did the 127 a few years ago and loved it. It was one of my coolest experience. We wanted to go this year but our Bo is nearing the end so we put off till next year. So glad you shared your creative inspiration with Sunday's Best!
